Mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling

Just so you guys have a point of reference,
there is a New Green Lantern in the DC Universe and he carries a gun...

yeah. a gun.

Why would he need a gun, when he has a power ring that can make ANY weapon that he would need, you ask?

Because, it's badass...

Bad... ASS!

San Diego Comic Con 2012 part 1

Hey guys, well another Comic Con has come and gone.  I think I have finally recovered from all the madness that is the Comic Con.  I had a wonderful time and would like to thank all of you who have supported me and my comic book dream throughout the years.  This year was especially sweet, because I FINALLY finished the first story arc of my comic series, Alcatraz High!

Nine years ago, I started this series, about a couple of outsiders named Miguel and Steve and their adventures in a high tech, high security high school.  I gotta admit, finishing the story arc was bitter sweet, I am saddened by the thought of the end of the story but excited to share it with my friends, family and fans who have come to love the series.

I had found this Alcatraz High comic in one of my Comic Con comic boxes, the morning of Premiere night.  I had forgotten that I had this, one of my favorite moments of my comic con career, meeting Joss Whedon!  I am a huge fan and to have him stop by my booth to buy my comic, just blew me away.  I posted this on my Twitter and Facebook to start off this con on a good note and some luck!

San Diego Comic Convention, the morning before Preview night!

This is me, with my van full of Comic Con goodness, boxes of Comics, some art prints, my booth display... I had tweeted, " Look what I did to this city with a few drums of gas and a couple of bullets."

Ran into Chris Sanders, director of "How To Train Your Dragon" and "Lilo and Stitch", who was setting up his booth that morning as well...

This year, I shared the booth with two amazing creators, Robert Valley and Howard Shum.  Here is a shot of us before the craziness of Comic Con started.  I want to thank these guys for being so cool and they are welcome to share my booth at Comic Con anytime!

Definitely a highlight for me is meeting fans!  Especially those who have followed my work for YEARS, I am grateful for you guys' continued support through the years.  Making a comic after work hours isn't easy, and you guys make it all worth it!  Wassup Chris!

Hi Maria!

I don't get to wonder around the con much, usually I have to man my booth and step out for mostly bathroom breaks, so it's always a pleasure to have friends stop by the booth.
My buddy Ian Graham, director of Korra and my ex-roomate when I was an Assistant Director and Storyboard Artist for Avatar the Last Airbender!

A little Avatar the Last Airbender reunion!  It was cool seeing the guys again!  G-Unit!

Speaking of Avatar the Last Airbender, another highlight of the Comic Con was being part of the Avatar Legacy Fan Panel.  I have to thank Avatar Mom for the invite!  And I have to thank all the talent who participated in the panel for making if fun and memorable and huge thank you to all the fans who showed up!
My wife took this shot of me (far left) at the Avatar panel.

A pic of Mae Whitman, voice of Katara and I.  Loved her in "Scott Pilgrim"

Signing autographs and meeting with fans after the fan panel!

It's a Rubio and Rufio reunion!  Dante Basco, voice of Zuko and Lost Boy from "Hook", Rufio stops by the booth!  Someday we are gonna get our project DONE!

Man, I am tired... I'll post more pics in part 2!

I am currently working on adding the word balloons to issue 35, all artwork is DONE!  So I just wanted to share with you guys the covers, colored by my buddy, Michael Greenholt!  Mike has colored the covers to the first 3 issues, so I thought it would be cool to finish this project together!  Thanks Mike!  It's been a loooong road to get here ( Dude, almost 10 years!!! Storyboard Tone Pass for Alcatraz High

All interior pages linework is DONE!  Now I am onto doing a gray tone pass throughout the book.  Since I am a storyboard artist, I wanted to do this book in a storyboard type style.  I think it looks cool and since that is what I am used to, I can blaze right through and get this comic done!

Which Alcatraz High Cover Design do you like?

Alright, it's Cover Design time for Alcatraz High #5!

This time I wanted to do a wrap around cover. So, I did these really quick and rough sketches to get the ideas down and get them in front of you guys as soon as possible.  I'm running out of time, so I gotta choose one of them to tie down and do the finished product.  SO, which design do you guys like?

Cover A. The Reveal. With the Mech Robots chasing the main characters.

Cover B.  Sexy Time.  With the Football Mech holding a cheerleader and the main characters.

Cover C.  Blockbuster.  With the Mech Robots and our main characters surrounded.

So which one is getting your vote?  Thanks guys for your votes, critiques and input!

Alcatraz High WIP Background Pass

Here is a WIP of Alcatraz High #5! This is the background pass, I have only 7 pages to go to complete all the line work.

This is the part that I don't particularly like, I guess I should really look into hiring some assistants like some Manga Artists... oh well, maybe next time.

Alcatraz High "All Girl Pass"

Done with the "All robot pass", so I am moving on to the "All girl pass" digital pencils for Alcatraz High.

Coming from an Animator background, I tend to like drawing characters more than backgrounds. This helps me to focus on the character's expressions and keep them on model.

Also, after drawing (storyboards) of Monsters on Monster's University all week, it's nice to draw humans and my own comic after work hours.

Gonna get Alcatraz High #5 done for the San Diego Comic Con!

Alcatraz High Digital Pencils

Alright, back on track. When I am not working on the latest Pixar Animated Feature (“Brave” and “Monsters University”), I am busy working on finishing issue #5 of my creator-owned comic, “Alcatraz High”!

For this issue, I was working in layers and decided to draw the characters on one level, the effects on another, the bg on another… Anyways, this last pass was “all the robots” pass. That is DONE!

Gonna get this issue done for San Diego Comic Con!

Annie and Britta from Community

"Give me back my bra, Annie!"

Annie and Britta from one of my favorite show on tv, "Community"!

I've just finished artwork commitments to some friends and was about to finally step back into finishing up my creator owned comic, "Alcatraz High", when I was asked by Mark Batalla to join in on the "Six Seasons and a Movie" art show.http://pixeldripgallery.com/2012/03/six-seasons-and-a-movie-open-call-for-submissions/ I didn't hesitate to sign up.  I absolutely LOVE this show and I really wanted to show support, so I drew this image.

I have a Troy and Abed drawing that I want to get to... Hopefully, I can find some time to do it before the submissions deadline...

Alright, gotta get back to "Alcatraz High",,, The Comic Con is coming!

Oh Sith!

Oh Sith!  Star Wars: Episode 1 in 3D is here!  My favorite part is when Obi Wan did that crazy @$$ jump over Darth Maul, and Darth Maul was in total shock that his defenses were down for like 5 minutes as Obi Wan had time to dunk over him, use the force to grab a lightsaber and win the game in overtime.  Dude, it was awesome!
