GAINAX at PIXAR

I am a HUGE fan of the Japanese animation studio, GAINAX.  I've been in love with the studio and their animation ever since I was introduced to Evangelion.  As soon as I saw the kinetic action, the beautiful and emotional shots, I was immediately hooked. I absolutely adore FLCL and Gurren Lagann.  I've only seen a couple of their latest, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt , and from what I've seen, GAINAX has done it again and delivered a crazy-whacked out and addictive anime.  So when I received an email from Toyonori Yamada from Gainax, asking me if they can come by to visit Pixar, I was so excited to have them as my guests.  Whenever I hang out with Gainax I turn into a fanboy, so that's my explanation for some of the goofier pictures.  I had a great time hanging out with the Gainax staff that included: Sushio, Akemi Hayashi, Masahiko Otsuka, Kumiko Sano, Hiromi Wakabayashi, Toyonori Yamada and Satsuki Yamashita. Extra special thanks to the Pixar staff who helped me make the tour run so smoothly, especially to Mach Kobayashi, Akiko Minaga and Grant Alexander.

Hiya doll! Wanna piece of fruit?

Time to Kick Ass eh!

So I was watching the Fedor vs. Silva fight on Strikeforce this past weekend and I was inspired to do a piece that was bad ass and vicious.  Keeping with the superhero theme I decided to draw one of the most brutal confrontations in comic history, the very first appearance of Wolverine when he fought the Hulk.  I wanted to depict the meeting almost like a MMA match, with the fighters looking like they been through hell.  Their faces are smashed and bruised.  I drew Hulks eye shut, kinda like Fedor's at the end of the fight. I drew Wolverine's face, just as bashed, his cheek is all swollen. I understand that they have healing powers, but I figured that in this battle, they wouldn't recuperate quickly.  In my mind neither opponent would heal up for weeks, maybe months.  That is how epic this battle would be.

A very X-Men Valentine's

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.
Feel the love, 90's X-Men style!

Valentine's Weekend

Happy Valentine's day weekend everybody!  I did this quick sketch before I left work the other day.  It's a bit cartoonier than I usually draw.  I was just messing around, playing with shapes.  I think it turned out pretty cool.  Was looking at a Brooklyn Decker image for reference,  I wasn't trying to caricature her necessarily because I already liked the stylized face I roughed out... Kinda think she ended looking more like Malin Akerman, which is all fine by me... Love Malin Akerman.  Yes, even in Watchmen.
